Argentina provide you with what you are looking for in a vacation, but it also has a rich history that can be dated back before Columbus reached the New World.
There is evidence to support the theory that early, pre-Columbian inhabitants occupied the land that is now Argentina as early as 13,000 years ago. These people were believed to be known as the
Diaguita, who primarily survived through agriculture. The Diaguita were a relatively peaceful people, however, they were very defensive and very effective at it. When the mighty Inca Empire tried
to expand their power and land, the Diaguita repelled the robust force of the Incas and sent them off in the opposite directions. The Diaguita occupied the land until the Europeans show up on the
scene in the early 16th century.
The first documented landing in Argentina is in 1516, by Spaniard Juan de Slois. The indigenous people put up a vigorous defense and de Solis was slain. It took quite a while before a permanent
European colony was established in Argentina and in the late 16th century, a city was established and it was named Santa Marķa del Buen Aire. Argentina also played an important role in the first
circumnavigation of the earth. Ferdinand Magellan landed in southern Patagonia in 1520, and discovered a water passage way that connected the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean.
Since then, there has been a keen interest in Argentina because of what was hidden in the ground, sliver. In fact, the name Argentina derives from the Latin word Argentum, meaning silver. During
the Napoleonic era, there was a power struggle between Spain and there viceroyalties in Argentina and Argentina gained independence in the mid 1800’s. Many European immigrants continued to flock
the Argentina and you can see evidence of the migration even today. There are still communities of Irish, German, Italians and Japanese that call Argentina their home.
Today, Argentina is on the verge of an economic rise. The people of Argentina are very proud of the heritage and they absolutely love to tell visitors about their rich history. Argentina has
long been known for its excellence in the meat industry and you will be hard pressed to fine steakhouses that can hold a candle to the ones that you will find in Argentina. The country also has
some of the most beautiful, high altitude skiing slopes in the world. The southern point in Argentina, and South America for that matter, is called Cape Horn. Cape Horn was used by early traders
and sailors to reach the Pacific Ocean from the Atlantic Ocean. It was know, and still known, for being one of the most treacherous waterways in the world. Thanks to the construction of the
Panama Canal, ship can easily reach the Pacific without going around the Horn.
